Surround yourself by talented, inspired people to keep you motivated. Compare yourself to the best in the industry (whichever one you want to be a part of - feature film/video games/etc.). īiggest advice I guess is don't compare your work to your peers. I'm currently at AnimSchool hoping to improve and learn more. I'd HATE to use my reel as an example of what you should compare yourself to, because I'm not very happy with it ATM. So much of it has to do with persistence, timing, luck, and of course you have to show your best work on your reel! If I had to guess, I got my foot in the door with 70% networking, and 30% my reel. Before that I spent about roughly a year freelancing in NYC as a VFX Animator (one feature film, one commercial).

So seeking help and opinion may help me or other facing this right now. Maybe some of you may find my situation kinda small things or not a serious problem to tackle but unlike the others I'm not strong enough to surpass this situations and to be honest i didn't really planned to work in animation it is just because i want to learn animation and to know how the production work and that's the only job i tried to apply and maybe a bit of chance to get passed and i did, so I am not sure if I'm really passionate in animation and working on it as a lifetime career.

Sorry if my post is unclear or confusing but i tried my best to explain the situation i was facing right now. So, some of you guys who worked for a long time, how can you still keep going even you lose those passion or how you able to recover or maintain those sparks? What routines you did to make your mental stable? I realized pushing yourself working overtime will ended up loosing yourself, I still don't recover fully in that week but it helps me a lot, maybe having those kind of routines is the cause of loosing your passion or enjoyment in your career. There was a cases where i almost having a mental breakdown (not sure about the proper term) for working 2 straight weeks for almost/more than 12hrs a day including weekends but after taking a 2-day break i noticed that i work much better than the last 2 weeks. I felt like i am almost in that situation but i believe i still have this burn to keep going however I'm not sure how long it will take me. Also some of them in earlier days the were passionate with their job, even though they were working overtime and leaved the studio too late but still come earlier than the others and even how stressful the work was they still enjoy it, but after many years they got burned out, quality of their job was not good unlike before and lost their passion, and they si working because they need money to support their everyday needs, but the salary in animation depending on the show where i was working is inconsistent they received lesser than the usual salary they have every week, so they decided to ditch and work in other studio or finding a new job. I think it's common (not sure) in any job to have this thoughts, i have co-workers/animators had this same experienced and ended up leaving the the studio and change their career path.
